106. OT.TO – Golizna (lyrics & vocals: Ryszard Makowski)

Before listening to this song, all children should leave the room where the… Internet receiver is because there will be nudity! And in my humble opinion, a classic example of it by (again in my opinion) indispensable Ryszard Makowski, a former member of the ‘OT.TO’ cabaret.

Wtedy weszła pielęgniarka, powiedziałem jej: dzień dobry.	Then this nurse came in, so I said ‘Good morning’.
Chwilę mi się przyglądała, ach – westchnęła i zemdlała.	She stared at me for a while, sighed and fainted.
Lekarz ściągnął marynarkę, by ratować pielęgniarkę.	The doc took off his jacket to revive her.
Zdjęty fartuch, zdjęta bluzka, oddychanie usta-usta.	Took off coat, took off blouse, mouth-to-mouth resuscitation .
Wtedy właśnie wszedł ten strażak, spojrzał, zaczął się obnażać.	Then this fire-fighter came in, looked and started to strip.
Min obleśnych zrobił szereg, pyta który mam numerek.	Made a series of lewd faces, asked about my ticket.
Zamyśliłem się bezmyślnie, ale numer – sobie myślę.	I got lost in thought mindlessly, and said to myself ‘Nice business’.
Wtedy weszła pani z biura: Orgia, no nareszcie, hura.	Next some lady from the office came in. ‘Orgy!’ said, ‘Finally! Hurray!’
Tyle lat czekałam na to, w euforii ściąga palto.	‘So long I have waited’, and pulled off her coat euphorically.
I nie czując żadnych barier całkiem nago śpiewa arię.	And with no inhibitions, sang an aria while being stark naked.

Z poczekalni wpadł tłum cały, wszyscy się porozbierali.	From the waiting room came all the crowd and everyone stripped naked.
Prasa, radio, telewizja, tu golizna, tam golizna.	The press, the radio, the television, nudity was everywhere.
A mnie nagi mundurowy chciał wziąć za dowód rzeczowy.	And the uniformed policeman tried to take me by the… material evidence.
Wtedy wpadła pani woźna: wy świntuchy, tak nie można.	Then that caretaker turned up, saying: ‘You lechers, this can’t go on anymore!’
W jednym ręku ma wiaderko i szarżuje z mokrą ścierką.	And carrying a bucket at one hand, charged at everyone with a wet cloth.
Przez to całe zamieszanie zginęło moje ubranie.	Because of all that commotion, my clothes was missing.
Szedłem jak pan Bóg mnie stworzył, wstyd mi, czego człowiek dożył.	I came along in my birthday suit, ashamed what my life had changed to.
Lecz nie zwracał nikt uwagi, nikt nie krzyczał: król jest nagi.	But no-one noticed me, no-one shouted ‘The king is naked’.

81. OT.TO – Rzępolą żaby (Frogs saw away)

This is probably the best song to show phonetics of Polish language with its alveolar, postalveolar and palatal fricatives and affricates. Ones that foreigners who learn Polish love so much…

The song is rather senseless but the idea was to accumulate as much words with the fricative consonants as possible retaining at the same time some sense of the lyrics.

In their text, the authors of the song, namely Wiesław Tupaczewski and Ryszard Makowski (the latter is no longer a member of the “OT.TO” cabaret), used names of regions rarely used in Polish, e.g. Hrubieszowszczyzna /xrubjeʃɔfʃt͡ʃɨzna/, Rzeszowszczyzna /ʒɛʃɔfʃt͡ʃɨzna/, with the -yzna /ɨzna/ suffix. These names may be compared to the names of the shires in England, though of course they are not precise equivalents.

To show the phonetic difficulty of the text more accurately and for those foreigners who’d try to pronounce it, below the Polish text of the song I placed the phonetic transcription of the lyrics.
